Going Within, Retreat in Crestone with Beth Sanchez & Derik Eselius

Screen Shot 2017-06-05 at 8.53.21 AM.png

your heart knows the way....

SOLD OUT FRIENDS.  THANK YOU!!
Crestone Colorado is a gem of a location; a vortex of powerful geographic and communal forces.  It is one of the very best places in North America for meditation practice as the water, air, land, sky, and intentional energy are pure, intense, and transformative.  Crestone is a potent home to multiple spiritual communities, progressive architectural design, and ecologically sound projects.  The Great Sand Dunes, mountain peaks, and several natural hot springs are nearby.

This retreat will be held over Labor Day weekend in the protection of the embracing Sangre De Cristo mountains and the largest alpine valley in the country.   We will engage many elements of deeper practice together including rich and mindful asana, pranayama, meditation, dharma talks, noble silence, chanting, and soulful communication with the natural world of the vast San Luis Valley.

There will be nourishing vegetarian meals, savored slowly and in Noble Silence.  Accommodations are of two different types, depending on your budget.  Your intentions on this retreat will be accelerated many-fold by the power of this remarkable place.

NOTE: SPOTS AT CRETONNE HEALING ARTS CENTER SOLD OUT AS OF AUGUST 1, 2017.  SPOTS AT A NEARBY B & B STILL AVAILABLE!  CLICK BELOW TO LEARN MORE.

Embodying the Meditative Life

Meditation practice is not something that happens when the stars align, conditions are pristine, and the compulsively thinking mind magically drops away. Like a garden, states of higher awareness are cultivated over time, and bear their fruits in turn. This module will help you tap into the open sky of silent sitting as well as in the walking, eating, stretching, journaling, interacting and so on. In this way, we become more capable of using our practice to come back to our true power when conditions are wonderful and when they are not.

This weekend will include slow and deep asana practice, approached as an exercise in Mindfulness. It will also incorporate many Buddhist-based practices from the Plum Village Tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn, Beth’s primary meditation practice.  Practices will include sitting, walking, and eating meditation, inviting the bell, singing, Dharma Sharing, Noble Silence and Deep Listening. This module will feel very much like a mountain retreat, but we will be right here in town.

Benefit Class for Rocky Mountain ALS

You might know a beloved couple in the yoga community, Jolene Collins and Rachel Ahalt.  They are famous for many things; being fabulous, having a deeply loved beta fish named Dr. Love (who has now achieved mahasamadhi...), and being fantastic foodie entrepreneurs in the artisan world of Sriracha.
Dear Jolene lost her mother to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) at the tender age of 15.   This has made her particularly compassionate towards families who are facing the immense struggle of this disease.
On Saturday, March 25, I will be part of a benefit to raise awareness and funds for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ALS.  This 2 hour event will include a yoga class, with some partner yoga, story sharing, and a whole lotta love for everyone involved.  Total beginners welcome.  100% of of funds raised will go to the organization.  A $20 tax-deductible donation is smiled upon.

Restorative Yoga Teacher Training, Level 2

Restorative Training With Ayurveda and Advanced Assists

This 10-hour training is for Restorative Yoga teachers who wish to add to their repertoire and student support. We will discuss going beyond the basics and incorporate the wisdom of Ayurvedic principles as they are applied to Restorative Yoga practice. We will explore the subtle supports such as music, language, and energetics. Other supplements include advanced assists that incorporate techniques from Thai Yoga Therapy and Partner Yoga. Students can self-select their readiness for the training; Level 1 Restorative Training is not required.

Restorative Yoga is a deeply healing lunar practice. It is suggested to balance the vigorous solar practices of Power and Hatha yoga as well as the stressful modern lifestyle. You are not exerting effort in Restorative Yoga, but in fact surrendering and allowing all physiological systems to soften and open. This releases deep layers of tension in the musculo-skeletal structure, nervous system, emotional body, and mind. You will cultivate the sense of being held and supported, and allow yourself to drop down into that deep state of tranquility and cellular repair, letting go of layers of tension, and allowing your wisdom and healing power to pervade the experience.

Other topics of discussion include sequencingmethodologycueing, and use of props. We will also practice together and access the deep states of relaxation where insight and healing occur. You will learn to develop a home practice.

A public workshop will be offered on Sunday of the weekend training to help students establish a safe, intelligent at-home practice. Trainees are welcome to this Sunday offering to take class, observe, or practice their newly-learned assists.

STUDENTS:  You may attend this training if you are a committed Restorative Yoga student, because the best way to learn something is to learn to teach it.

SCHEDULE:

Thursday, Jan 26 – 6:45 PM - 9:15 PM
Friday, Jan 27 – 6:45 PM - 9:15 PM
Saturday, Jan 28 – 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

A public workshop will be offered on Sunday of the weekend training to help establish a safe, intelligent at-home practice. Trainees are welcome to this Sunday offering to take class, observe, or practice their newly-learned assists.

Spirituality and Sexuality

Alakananda Ma, will be visiting Denver to offer teachings on Spirituality and Sexuality, aspects of our lives that do not always reside together comfortably. Before the Satsang, there will be some devotional singing.  After the Satsang, there will be Q & A and then you can personally receive a small gift from her. This talk is enlightening, inspiring, and humorous!  It is by donation, and while there is a recommendation, any amount will do!

Also, here is a short clip of Alakananda speaking during an event in 2011 for the people of Pakistan.  You will see that she is also a wonderful poet (besides being a doctor, teacher, and politically engaged person, among other things).
